‘It doesn’t feel great’: Jurgen Klopp admits disappointment as holders Liverpool are knocked out of the FA Cup after 2-1 defeat at Brighton… but suggests they ‘might see the positives’ of having less games to play amid poor form

Jurgen Klopp has admitted ‘it doesn’t feel great’ to see his Liverpool side lose to Brighton.

The Reds were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round on Sunday when they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Roberto de Zerbi’s side, with Kaoru Mitoma scoring a stoppage time winner.

It was the second time the Seagulls have beaten Liverpool in as many weeks, though Klopp praised his side for playing better than they did in the Premier League encounter.

The Reds suffered a 2-1 defeat at the AMEX Stadium for the second time in as many weeks

‘We came here after a game a few weeks ago when we weren’t even close to ourselves’, Klopp told the BBC.

‘Today we played a better game but we concede two goals from set-pieces and that is not allowed in any way.’

Mitoma is in fine form for Brighton having found a new lease of life under de Zerbi.

He caused Trent Alexander-Arnold plenty of issues on Liverpool’s right-hand-side during the game, but Klopp bemoaned the lack of support for the England full-back.

Kaoru Mitoma scored a last-minute winner to continue his and his side’s fantastic form

‘On the left side Robbo was ok because we helped him but on the other side Trent didn’t get the support’, he said.

‘Mitoma is really good so, of course, it was tough. We could have defended both goals better. The first is deflected but we can probably block the shot.

‘It doesn’t feel great. In time we might see the positives but we wanted to get the next round. Congratulations to Brighton.’

Liverpool have now registered just one win in their last six games in all competitions, a stark contrast to their success last season.

The face Wolves next in the Premier League next weekend, before the Merseyside derby versus Everton the following week.
