Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp has been charged for his post-match comments following his side’s FA Cup fourth-round replay victory over Wrexham.
The veteran striker’s comments in after the victory against Wrexham – who are owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – appear to have landed him in hot water after he was charged by the FA for ‘implying bias and/or attacking the integrity of the referee’.
The goalscorer was unhappy with the performance of referee Leigh Doughty and suggested he had aided Wrexham in their efforts to try and pull off an FA Cup miracle.
Sharp now has until Tuesday to respond to the official charge and could be handed a match ban or fine if he is found guilty.
The comments in question relate to Sharp’s admission during a media interview after the match ended that the referee had ‘helped’ Wrexham.

Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has been charged by the FA for his post-match comments in FA Cup tie against Wrexham
Veteran striker Sharp suggested that referee Leigh Doughty was ‘helping’ Wrexham out all night
Sharp stated at the time: ‘I think they thought we were going to roll over when they got back in it and I think the referee was helping them out all night as well.
‘I don’t think he gave me one foul all night. Yeah, it’s one of those things, I’ve probably lost my head a little bit, but I’ve got a smile on my face because we are through to the next round of the cup and the boys deserve it.’
At 37-years-old many would think that the Englishman would be able to hold his tongue having been put through hundreds of interviews throughout his professional career but that appears not to be the case on this occasion.
Sharp, who scored the winning goal further let his anger get the better of him as he launched a foul verbal tirade at Wrexham defender Ben Tozer in the tunnel before proceeding to his media duties.
