Trent Alexander-Arnold insists he will never lose his appetite for winning trophies as he claims ‘the sky’s the limit’ despite completing the clean sweep at just 23 after Liverpool’s FA Cup win

Trent Alexander-Arnold completed the clean sweep on Saturday but he left Wembley thinking about what could be in front of him rather than what he has accomplished so far.

The Liverpool right back, 23, only made his debut five seasons ago but took great delight in wearing his FA Cup medal, as he dissected the penalty shootout win over Chelsea, and relished the idea of adding it to his five other gongs at home.

Alexander-Arnold was superb in Liverpool’s 60th game of the campaign, with three crucial interventions in his own penalty area. It once again illustrates that it is risible to claim he lacks the necessary attributes to be a top-class defender.

The full back put in an impressive performance for Liverpool, making crucial interventions

He would not have won the Champions League, Premier League, Carabao Cup — plus the European Super Cup and Club World Cup — had his defending been questionable.

These are the kind of achievements that could make a player think he has done it all, but Alexander-Arnold made it clear he will never lose his appetite to keep winning.

‘Growing up you never think you will win all these trophies,’ he said. ‘You see legendary players who do that and you think it is unbelievable. To be able to say I have done that at such a young age is a dream come true.

Despite his success, the youngster made it clear he will never lose his appetite to keep winning

‘Hopefully there are a lot more trophies to come. The motivation is to win them all again. It comes from within and thinking about what I want my legacy to be and where I think my potential is as a player.

‘The sky is the limit so I want to carry on and push on and never be satisfied.

‘I will keep my head down, try to win more trophies and hopefully at the end of my career I can be proud of what I have done. It has not gone too bad so far, has it?

‘In five or 10 years’ time, I hope to be talking about bigger and better things.’

After Liverpool’s cup double, this campaign may end with three — or possibly four — trophies.

The 23-year-said he hopes to be proud of his career when he looks back in ‘five or 10 years’

Manchester City’s draw at West Ham boosted hopes of a title triumph and should Jurgen Klopp’s side win at Southampton on Monday, they will put pressure back on their rivals.

‘Anything can happen,’ said Alexander-Arnold. ‘We have seen stranger things happen. There are two games left, it is looking unlikely but we just have to make sure we are in a good position if they do slip up to capitalise on that.’

Mention of strange things led the mind to turn back to May 16, 2021 and the day Alisson rose in West Brom’s penalty area to score a header that changed the course of Liverpool’s direction and put them in the Champions League against all odds.

‘It was a magic moment,’ said Liverpool’s goalkeeper coach John Achterberg, when reminded of that header.

Alisson Becker made the deciding penalty save as he kept Mason Mount’s spot-kick out

So it was fitting that the Brazil keeper should make his first ever penalty save for Liverpool to deny Mason Mount and set up the chance for Kostas Tsimikas to convert the decisive spot-kick.

Alisson’s composed display showed, once again, why he is the best in the world.

‘He was outstanding,’ added Achterberg. ‘Awesome. There were a lot of man-of-the match performances but he was one of them. He is really calm and clear in his mind. Nothing fazes him. He is an unbelievable human being.’
