The kit for the champions? Manchester City unveil new home shirt for the 2022/23 campaign inspired by club legend Colin Bell and iconic teams of the 1960s… with a maroon trim, central crest and a crown logo paying tribute to ‘Colin the King’

Puma have released Manchester City’s home kit for the 2022-23 campaign, which pays tribute to club legend Colin Bell and their iconic sides of the late 1960s.

Pep Guardiola’s men will line up next season in a strip which echoes classic designs of the past, with their club crest positioned in the centre of a light-blue shirt and maroon trims on both the neck and sleeve cuffs.

The kit is mainly inspired by Bell, who helped City become English champions and clinch the European Cup Winners’ Cup in his iconic 14-year stint.

But it also honours the swaggering teams he starred in throughout the late 1960s, which claimed two League Cups and the FA Cup as well as the aforementioned trophies.

Bell played a key part in City’s first league title triumph for 31 years in 1968, scoring 14 goals in 35 appearances under Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison.

The midfielder, who passed away in January 2021, is widely considered one of the greatest players in their history, and as a tribute to ‘Colin the King’ Puma have included a crown logo inside the neckline of City’s new shirt.

Marco Mueller, Puma’s Senior Head of Product Line Management, said: ‘The new Manchester Home kit is a fitting tribute to classic City Home kits styles of the past. We wanted to create a modern spin on the jerseys worn between 1967 to 1971.

‘The maroon trim was an important detail because this was an iconic color seen on many of the previous City Home kits. The jersey is a great homage to the entertaining teams of old and the exciting free-flowing football of the current City team.’

Jon Bell, Colin’s son, added: ‘As a family, we’re incredibly touched that the club and PUMA have chosen to remember the teams of the late 1960’s and my dad with next season’s Home kit – it’s a beautiful gesture.

‘It really captures the history and togetherness of Manchester City as a club, and I hope the fans like it and can remember those great moments.’

City’s authentic jersey features ULTRAWEAVE performance fabric and dryCELL sweat-wicking technology, which makes the jersey one of Puma’s lightest and most comfortable.

The replica version, meanwhile, is made with 100 per cent recycled polyester with dryCELL sweat-wicking technology which ensures both dryness and comfort.

The 2022/23 Manchester City home kit will be available to purchase from May 19 at Puma stores, Puma.com, City’s club store at the Etihad and mancity.com/shop.

City will hope to don the new jersey as back-to-back Premier League champions next season
