Sol Bamba has jokingly proclaimed he is ‘too old for this s***’ after he helped Middlesbrough dramatically defeat Manchester United.
Chris Wilder’s side knocked United out of the FA Cup fourth round at Old Trafford on Friday, winning 8-7 on penalties after the match was deadlocked at 1-1 after extra time.
Cancer survivor Bamba scored a seemingly nerveless penalty in the shoot-out, casually firing past Dean Henderson to help his side progress.

His tweet – in reply to the Emirates FA Cup account’s picture of Bamba celebrating at the final whistle, read: ‘I’m too old for this s***,’ followed by three cry-laughing emojis.
The catchphrase originates from the popular Lethal Weapon film series, in which Danny Glover’s character Roger Murtaugh considers retirement due to the difficulties of his job.
The 37-year-old centre half was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, in 2021 and underwent chemotherapy.

He announced he was cancer-free in May but left Cardiff in the summer, finding out he was released on Twitter.
Bamba then signed for Neil Warnock at Middlesbrough in August, and has played regularly this season for Boro, his experience and nous proving a valuable asset even after Wilder replaced Warnock.
The 46-cap Ivory Coast international replaced youngster Isaiah Jones in the 118th minute, helping to shore up the game, and joked with referee Anthony Taylor before coolly slotting past United goalkeeper Henderson.
The 37-year-old centre half said he was ‘getting too old for this s***’ after the dramatic victory
He said after the game: ‘I wanted to take a penalty and I am still playing football for moments like this, we had very good away fans and it was set for us tonight.
‘All the way through my treatment ,it was for moments like this. The hard work, support from my family and football community I can only thank them. Without their support I wouldn’t be there. I still have the drive to keep going.
‘The family and Mrs were in distress and panic but it is pure joy and I will enjoy it tonight. It is a fairytale, I enjoy being back on the pitch after everything I have been though and long may it continue.’
