Harvey Elliott scored on his return to action as they sealed a 3-1 win over Cardiff in the FA Cup

The 18-year-old last played back in September when he was stretched off at Elland Road

He tracked the trajectory of Andrew Robertson’s 76th minute cross from the left, applied the studs of his left boot to bring it under control and swivelled to despatch shot of power and precision with the same foot.

Elliott said: ‘It is hard to put into words at the moment. This is what I am in the team to do, to score and assist, thankfully it has come today in front of the fans after having a long time out and in the end it’s my job at the end of the day so I’ve just got to keep doing it.

‘It’s a moment that myself and my family will remember.’

The midfielder was keen to thank the club, the supporters along with his family and friends

The midfielder was also keen to thank everyone at the club, his family, friends and the Liverpool supporters for their encouragement throughout his rehabilitation.

‘The list goes on to be honest, but one man in particular was Joe Lewis, a physio at Liverpool, he got me back strong in the end.

‘Shout out to my family and friends, mum and dad in particular.

‘Even the fans with the support and love, I’m back now and hopefully all that is behind me.’

‘Our medical department did an incredible job, he was patient enough but desperate enough to come back.

‘There are not a lot of good things when you have an injury like that but when you are that young you deal with it better.

‘Now he is back and it is really nice. He got his goal and it was a really touching moment.’
