Heading into the game, Mason said that he wanted to secure the role on a permanent basis.
‘Honestly for me I feel ready. I know I am ready’, Mason said at his pre-match press conference.
‘If that situation happens, it means we’ve done a good job. That is fast forwarding six weeks time. My immediate focus is Thursday.’
However, Mason revealed the most important thing was focusing on the job in hand and beating the Red Devils on Thursday.
The interim manager said: ‘The most important thing is getting energy and positivity back into the group and fan as well.
‘We have to be realistic ahead of three training sessions before two games, hard to change a big deal but I would hope before the end of season people would see my stamp on the group.’

Mason also explained that United are having a good season so far, but is confident the club can get a good result.
‘They’ve [United] had a good season and won a trophy which is important for a big club. Difficult but fully believe we can get a good result.’
As for United, Ten Hag has called for a dominant performance from his side.
‘It was not so often that we have to bounce back, it happens with all the great teams, Real Madrid, heh?’ Ten Hag said at his pre-match press conference.
‘It’s obvious they had a really bad defeat, of course, they are mad, that can be fuel for bounce backing. It’s about us, an opponent can never be more hungry than us.
‘That is how we have to prepare the game and make sure we go front foot, be dominant and dictate the game.’
