After being stunned by Brentford in a 3-1 loss on Monday which left them sixth in the Premier League table, Jurgen Klopp’s side host Wolves this weekend in the FA Cup third round as they look to bounce back.

With forwards Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz out long-term and Roberto Firmino carrying a knock, Gakpo’s presence offers a selection boost for the German boss.

Footage released on the club’s social media account shows Gakpo getting stuck in to physical work, trying tricks and flicks with the ball and getting to grips with team-mate Darwin Nunez – with whom he could start up front against Wolves.

Gakpo’s availability for Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Wolves is a boost for boss Jurgen Klopp

Club captain Jordan Henderson missed the defeat at Brentford due to concussion protocols but joined Gakpo at Kirkby and is in contention for Saturday’s game, but fellow midfielder Naby Keita was not pictured at the session.

Youngsters Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak, Calvin Ramsay and Bobby Clark will all hope to be involved in the matchday squad amid the absences of James Milner and Firmino.

Liverpool are hoping to retain the FA Cup trophy they won last season and come up against a resurgent Wolves, who have improved under new manager Julen Lopetegui.
