Chelsea will stick with this season’s home kit for the Champions League final – easing the concerns of superstitious figures at the club who fear it may be unlucky to wear new strips early.
Manchester City and Chelsea will both be wearing their first-choice strips in Saturday’s final, as they have done during their three domestic meetings this term.
Unlike in the FA Cup final and Women’s Champions League final, when they ran out in next season’s eye-catching strip, Chelsea will revert to the kit they have been using for most of the campaign for the showpiece.

Chelsea lost both of this month’s games in the 2021-22 kit – the finals were picked as ideal opportunities to showcase the new strip as they came only a few days after its official unveiling.
When the temporary change was announced no decision had been taken on plans for the upcoming Champions League final, although Chelsea were back in their more familiar strip for their final two league games.
Chelsea wore their new kit in the FA Cup final, which they lost 1-0 against Leicester
Indeed, Chelsea’s move not to switch to next season’s kit on Saturday could be a good omen. The club changed to their new kit for the 2008 Champions League final against Manchester United and lost on penalties.
But the next time they reached Europe’s biggest club game in 2012, they wore the strip from that season and beat Bayern Munich on their own ground to be crowned champions for the first time.
Both of Chelsea’s Europa League triumphs, in 2013 and 2019, also came while wearing current rather than future kits.
