Hugh Jackman revealed that he was approached by a number of non-league clubs to become co-owner for as little as £1 following the sky-rocketing profile of rivals Wrexham after their American takeover.
The National League side were bought by Hollywood actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds in 2021, and have since seen their popularity grow enormously.
And Jackman admitted that he had been offered the opportunity to join his close friend in football club ownership in the UK, but ultimately turned down the offer.
Jackman and Reynolds are known to share a mock rivalry, with the pair constantly appearing to tease and poke fun at one another on social media.
The Australian claimed that although he rejected the idea, the concept of outsiders coming in to buy football clubs felt ‘easy’.
Hugh Jackman revealed he was offered the opportunity to buy a rival club to Wrexham for £1
Ryan Reynolds (L) and Rob McElhenney (R) became owners of National League side Wrexham in 2021
‘I will admit to you that when Ryan bought that team, I did get more than one offer from rivals of that team for £1 to come in as a co-owner and it did seriously tempt me,’ he told Laura Kuenssberg.
‘This whole thing of outsiders coming in and buying football teams, it feels a little, I don’t know, easy.’
The takeover by Reynolds and McElhenney has not only seen Wrexham’s profile increase in the UK, but has resulted in a growth in following from across the Atlantic, something that most non-league sides would not have imagined possible.
The club has also become the subject of a smash-hit documentary – ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ – which offers viewers a look behind closed doors following the momentous takeover.
And although Jackman decided against taking up rival clubs on their offer, he did joke that he would be considering a foray into the game.
The Wolverine actor is a fan of Championship side Norwich, and quipped that he could get one over on his rival in a different way.
‘I have decided to go one step further, I’m actually going to try out for the team.’ he added of the Canaries.
Wrexham are leading the National League by five points in a bid for promotion to the Football League
It is not just the popularity of Wrexham that has seen a vast improvement since their Hollywood owners took control of the club.
On the pitch, the team finished second in the league in 2021-22, qualifying for the play-offs, but were beaten by Grimsby town who made their return to League 2.

But the Welsh side are vying for the only automatic promotion spot in the division, trailing Notts County in the National League by five points but with two games in hand.
Outside of the National League, Wrexham were denied a spot in the FA Cup fifth round after losing a feisty replay in the fourth round to Sheffield United, following a dramatic 3-3 home draw at the Racecourse.
