REVEALED: The Premier League were forced to correct multiple errors in their charges against Man City with SIX of their alleged breaches relating to inconsequential rules

The Premier League were forced to correct multiple errors in their announcement of the charges levelled at Manchester City.

In their 735-word statement on Monday, the Premier League listed more than 100 rules they accused City of breaching. On Wednesday, six of them were quietly changed.

The original charge sheet claimed City were charged with rules E.3, E.4, E.11 and E.12 in 2011-12. However, they related to inconsequential rules like Premier League weekend matches that are not on television will be played on Saturday and games ‘will be played on New Year’s Day unless […] it falls on a Sunday’ or that all clubs must enter the FA Cup.

The Premier League later changed the statement to say City were instead charged with breaching rules C.78, C.79, C.86 and C.87, which related to the club’s accounts.

The mistake was that it was not until the following seasons that those rules moved into Section E. A similar error concerned 2021-22, when breaches of W.15 and W.16 were corrected to W.12 and W.13.
