‘Everybody told him welcome to England’: Jurgen Klopp jokes about Luis Diaz and allays injury fears after the Colombian was left screaming in pain after taking a hefty knock to his knee on his Liverpool debut against Cardiff

Jurgen Klopp has said that Luis Diaz is ‘all good’ after appearing to suffer a knee injury on his Liverpool debut against Cardiff in the FA Cup.

The winger – who signed from Porto last week in a deal worth up to £50million – came on in the 58th minute of the Reds’ 3-1 win at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Later in the second half, Cardiff defender Aden Flint accidentally landed on Diaz after the pair challenged for a high ball.

There was concern for the Colombian international, who stayed on the ground for several minutes but was eventually able to get up and finish the game after receiving treatment.

‘Luis came on but it’s just a bruise and a little cut, everybody told him welcome to England,’ Klopp joked after the match.

‘There will be a scar at the end but he will know what he did in the first game. But all good.’

Moments before the incident, Diaz proved the assist for Takumi Minamino to make it 2-0 to Liverpool.

The winger robbed the ball off Perry Ng on the byline before laying it off into the middle where the Japanese international arrived to finish.

Praising Diaz after the game, Ian Wright said: ‘We know that is what he is capable of. Once he gets down the line, good feet there but you look at where the two defenders are and they are standing still.’

Meanwhile, Roy Keane was quick to pick apart Cardiff’s defending.

‘You might get away with that in the Championship but you’ve got to attack it,’ he said, referring to Diaz’s cut back.

‘That will help Minamino’s confidence. Any manager wants good options and Jurgen Klopp will be a happy man today.’
